Velociraptors were Dromaeosaurids, among the dinosaurs with the very highest level, so they were truly smart among dinosaurs. On this ranking, they were probably a bit smarter than rabbits and not quite as smart as cats and dogs. read more
So their brains were larger than they used to estimate. We don’t know how smart velociraptors were, and never will be certain, but at present, it’s reasonable to assume they were as intelligent as turkeys, eagles, and other similar-sized birds. They were not as intelligent as parrots or corvid birds, which are the geniuses of the dinosaur family. read more
For example, the doorknob-turning, pack-hunting Velociraptors of Jurassic Park and Jurassic World are a complete fantasy--if you met a live Velociraptor today, it would probably strike you as slightly dumber (though a lot more dangerous) than a chicken. read more
