How was Lake Huron formed?

Cities with over 10,000 people on Lake Huron include Sarnia, the largest city on Lake Huron, and Saugeen Shores in Canada and Bay City, Port Huron, and Alpena in the United States. A large bay that protrudes northeast from Lake Huron into Ontario, Canada, is called Georgian Bay. read more

About 9,000 years ago, Lake Huron’s levels were a lot lower than they are today. (Look up the documentary Drain the Great Lakes, which computer-generated graphics to show the bottom of the lake.) There's a spot in Lake Huron called the Alpena Ridge. Underwater archaeologists have discovered rock walls on the ridge that aren't natural formations. read more
