In most cases they speak both. In Trevor Noah's case his mother is Xhosa and Xhosa is part of the Nguni languages which means it is very similar to Zulu in fact they are interchangeable to some degree. So my guess is in his mother's house he spoke Xhosa, and when he went outside to play he either spoke Zulu or Sotho. read more
