I don't think you've lost hope. You've lost faith. There's a difference. When I finally turned atheist, I went through the same thing. As a theist, irrespective of what situation you're in, you have faith in "God" - that he has a plan etc. and that everything will be alright. read more

Such things have nothing to do with one’s eternal fate. Rather, as you indicate in the last bullet point, only belief or lack thereof in Jesus determines one’s fate.
