Some people seem to be very set on drawing a sharp line between dogs and wolves. I think this has increased since a recent discovery suggesting that rather than domestic dogs being descended from a population of grey wolves, perhaps both domestic dogs and grey wolves are descended from a now extinct variety, the large Taymir wolf. read more

A wild dog is a wild canine - the term simply refers to any non-domesticated canine, not to a specific species.
