In tennis, why are grass courts faster than hard courts?

So its very hard and the ball tends to skid making it a "fast" court, even faster than hard courts. So the net result with the thin grass and the hard dirt is a very hard, fast smooth surface with little texture so the ball is fast off the surface and has littel to grab to so it tends to skid a lot. read more

Grass is known for having a fast playing surface, with the ball not losing much steam off the bounce, so the ability to blow it past a player is greater than on clay or the hard court. Scoring points are often times faster as volleys are more infrequent. read more
