It should be doable. There will be for sure some fixed costs, when I stayed in Shanghai I payed about 20 RMB a month for my mobile phone, plus another 40 RMB to get internet access in my dorm room. These seem to me the only additional expenses you'll have to cover, apart from food. read more

If you must pay rent, from 700 Rmb up you can get a place to live. My apartment rents for 3,000 Rmb per month, but in a big city it will be upwards of 10,000 to 15,000 Rmb, it is 190 sq meters. 6000 RMB is more than enough. It only depends on your lifestyle. You don't need more than 1000 RMB for food (2000 if you prefer more expensive restaurants).
