Contemporary dancing incorporates a lot of ballet moves. It is quite difficult for beginners, but not impossible. It is only a matter of time before you start dancing like a legit contemporary dancer. So yes, age is no bar. You will gain flexibility with practise. Even the students who start pointe at around age 13, also have to take ballet class on flat as well. They usually continue with 2 ballet on flat and one pointe class in a recreational ballet school.
