Major tsunamis are indeed huge, but they are huge not in wave height but in volume displaced. In mid-ocean a tsunami may be only a few feet tall, but that is spread out over miles and miles in every direction. And out in mid-ocean that huge wave moves as fast as a jet airliner. read more
