ADHD is a genetic disorder that you are born with. It is of course possible to develop a serious brain injury e.g. head trauma or brain tumour that damages the brain areas responsible for self-regulation and working memory, and this may cause ADHD-like symptoms (along with a lot of other symptoms). read more

Except that diagnosis of adhd and dispensation of medication for the same isn't something that only happens after careful and patient evaluation by a psychiatrist. Most people's insurance wouldn't pay for this, so many wind up getting a diagnosis after a brief consultation with a GP, pediatrician or nurse practitioner in a busy clinic. read more
