Is Allapattah a really terrible area in Miami, Florida?

I am not from Miami and don't know much. I found a great looking apartment right on the border of Allapattah and the Civic Center and can't tell if it's safe or not. The neighborhood-o-meter has Allapattah as red but the civic center as light blue. Crime maps show the block the apartment is on as safe, but some surrounding blocks look sketchier. read more
