Seeds are a great nut-substitute in most recipes. I'd try sunflower seeds or hemp seeds, perhaps with sesame seeds sprinkled on top for decoration. I found a few recipes online for “sunflower seed baklava”, but would probably use a more-standard recipe myself, just making the substitution of seeds for nuts. Yum! read more

I’ve seen baklava made with walnuts, almonds and peanuts. The peanuts baklavas are by far the least common. If someone has a peanut allergy, however, they might be particular about the other materials used.
