I’ve lived near Quebec City for about 7–8 years, Montreal for about 4–5. No, crime here (at least in Quebec City) is not bad. It depends on which neighborhoods you go to. It’s usually bored teens looking for trouble. Minor property crimes. That sort of thing. Montreal has a higher crime rate but it’s still a relatively peaceful city. read more

Homicides are almost non-existant. Usually there are 3-4 murders every year mostly in St-Roch, Limoilou and Les Saules. These neighbourhoods are usually safe especially near Charest and St-Joseph Est even by night but I would avoid some dark narrow streets.
