Depending on what dark energy is, it can, in principle, be inhomogeneous. Our prevailing cosmological model assumes that everything (both "normal" and dark matter, as well as dark energy) is approximately homogeneous on the large scale, but this is just a model (validated by observation, but still a model) not some law of nature. read more
