Much of Detroit is a ruin because of the decline of the American auto industry. Early in the 20th century, Detroit became home to all three of America's major auto manufacturers. Those companies got so big and rich that they completely dominated the city's economy. The city grew and expanded to accommodate that expansive economy. read more
