They are not the same. Earth Science is more like Physical geography plus oceanography, it is a component of environmental science. One cannot enroll in an environmental science subject without having taken an introductory course in earth science at least. read more

Geology, Geophysics, Climate Science, Environmental Science, Oceanography, Hydrology are all considered Earth Sciences - and are all taught in the Earth Sciences department I attended. In my opinion it is important to remember that the Earth is essentially one big, complex, interconnected system, which should be studied as such. read more

Environmental science, on the other hand, has to do with viewing the Earth system on an integrative and manner, often using heuristic methods to simplify analysis of a complex system. read more
