Freon is simply a chlorofluorocarbon, a highly stable coolant. Due to it's stability, it persists for a long time in the atmosphere. When it reaches the ozone(O3) layer, it reacts with it converting it into plain old oxygen, thus damaging the precious ozone layer. So yeah it is really bad. read more
