So Ireland is approximately five sixths of Ireland! The nation is often called the Republic of Ireland to distinguish it from the island of Ireland. The North Eastern tip is called Northern Ireland and is part of the UK. read more

So Northern Ireland is technically part of Great Britain, when Great Britain refers to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, but it would be insensitive to describe it that way (sorry everyone). Of course a significant minority in Northern Ireland want it to be united with the Republic of Ireland. read more
