Is it possible to be a gamer and an engineer or a scientist?

I'm 23, gamer since Cs 1.6 and almost finished my studies in oil and gas engineering. Life is great. I can fit in about three hours of gaming a day in which I play league of legends and the rest goes to study. Of course the three hours can turn to six which means less study or sleep. read more

My friend is a scientist. He works on mathematical models for big data. He reads scientific journals and plays video games everyday. I’m the one giving him recommendation on new game titles as he doesn’t have time (or maybe not interested, I suspect) to update himself with the latest gaming news. So, yes, it’s possible. read more

Typically, a scientist is defined as someone who is doing research in a scientific field. Simply applying the applications of someone else's research is not science. So someone doing research in engineering methods may be a scientist, but no, in general an engineer is not doing science - they're applying science. They are not scientists. read more
