Most of whether it is exciting or not to study quantum mechanics comes down to how you're learning it. A lot of this is the textbook that you're using. I personally find that the now de facto standard textbook Griffiths Introduction Quantum Mechanics is mind-numbingly boring and really takes all the physics out of quantum mechanics. read more

Then study the formulation of the problems and solutions. Please do not miss the analysis part of the solutions. That's extremely important. You will need a lot of abstract thinking. But it's intellectually rewarding to study quantum mechanics. Again problem solving is a must. read more
