Is it safe to eat raw grasshoppers?

No. Apparently they can have tapeworms which can get transmitted to humans. In a survival situation they would be an excellent source of food. I do not know with what frequency they have tapeworms though. If you cook them, the tapeworms, their eggs, and larvae are all killed. I have eaten some. read more

They are also eaten in Africa, but be warned: some species sequester plant poisons, so if you're in Africa and are a child with a weak liver ask before eating.
