Is Johns Hopkins or Stanford better for pre-med?

These are both excellent schools for pre-med. You can't go wrong with either one to get a quality education. I attended JHU, Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and did residency and first fellowship at Hopkins Hospital. Then I did a second fellowship at Stanford so I got some sense of life on "the farm." Hopkins pre-med was cut-throat competition when I was there but things may have changed in 30 years. I would not have recommended it then to anyone. read more

As far as Penn vs. Hopkins goes, I think Penn has the edge in terms of the overall strength of the undergrad program, being much less cutthroat than a place like Hopkins, not having an applicant screen like Hopkins does, and I believe a lower average undergrad GPA for acceptance to med school (though I cannot be sure of this). read more
