Is ketamine truly a horse tranquilizer?

Best Answers

Not really a tranquilizer, it is classified as a dissociative anesthetic. I used lots of it for horse surgery and rarely had a problem (but the problem anesthetic reactions tended to be really hairy). It is very safe but must be given in combination with a tranquilizer, most commonly xylazine. read more

Best Answer: It is used for more than one animal, not just horses- it is a cyclohexamine- pretty dangerous stuff when you come down to it- by itself, it can cause muscle rigidity and seizures. However, it is so wildely used because it gets the animal/human to the stage that is needed, and is pretty safe when mixed with something else. read more
