Australia is similar enough that while there are some regional differences, they aren't as big as the regional differences in the United States. I've lived in Slovakia, Ireland and Spain. Slovakia to Ireland to Spain is not New South Wales to Tasmania to Western Australia. You cannot talk about Europe in this way as a monolithic place. read more

Because Australia was colonized by the UK, one of the powerhouses of Western civlilization and culture, and thus has a heavy Anglo culture. Australia has a high white population, it has a Western democracy, it is a member of the Commonwealth of Nations (all countries colonized by the British Empire, minus USA) and it has European architecture. read more
