I think you would do better to ask about drinking raki (made from grape skins) or brandy. I don’t know how raki is different from other grape skin liquors (‘marc’, ‘grappa’, ‘pomace brandy’) There are many kinds of homemade liquor, in the US most ‘moonshine’ is made from grain (usually corn). read more

Moonshine is classified as a distilled spirit and, since the Revolutionary War, distilled spirits have been taxed at a festively high rate. Beer and wine, not so much. The good folk in Washington don’t want you making your own shine because it costs them tax dollars. read more
