Taking notes in class is not pointless whatsoever. On the contrary, research has shown that the more you record during the class, the better you perform on later exams. At the same time though, you shouldn't record facts verbatim without spending the time to filter the important information. read more
Personally, I took notes in my first two years of college and in most of the math classes, but not in classes with PowerPoint lectures or online notes. Some problems had multiple steps and required me to rewrite them in order to remember it. An introductory class is meant to be easier and typically does not require extensive, if any, note-taking. read more
