The National Guard is not trained to fight forest fires. However, they could be activated to provide security and help evacuate areas near forest fires. The organization that supplies and organizes fire fighters to fight forest fires is the National Wildfire Coordinating Group. read more
Check the distance between the coast, and the fires. While some of the fires are near the coast, for many of the fires, they are far enough inland that carrying the amount of water that would be needed to fight the fires from the coast is prohibitively expensive. read more
