Honestly it's just different. There's a different thought process to, and set of aims behind, the admissions process. It's tempting to look at the admission rates, google says Harvard has one of 5.4% and Oxford of 17.5%. This doesn't tell the full story, however. For all of these schools, it is significant where you are a citizen--if you are a US citizen, Oxford is much harder to get into, and if you are British, Harvard will be harder, because you will be considered an international student (this is something that would also be applicable to med school admissions). read more

So this anonymous person seems to think getting into Oxford is so much easier than getting into Stanford. I think he/she thinks that way because of the rejection from Stanford and acceptance from Oxford, but that really isn't the case. I know people who got accepted at Stanford but couldn't make it to Oxford or Cambridge. read more
