Is Peru a dangerous place for tourists?

Peru is perfectly safe! Before I came here all the Lonely Planet travel warning/tips worried me as well, but the country is actually pretty tourist friendly and easy to navigate. As others have said, use basic street smarts. read more

Major cities in Peru have very nice areas, as well as places a tourist should not enter, as occurs in New York, London and most major cities. Don't try to get so Indiana Jones in here and you'll have an amazing experience. If you come to Peru, make sure you know the places you want to go and inform especially with a travel agency. read more

There is a special mention for Lima’s centre and for Barranco, both are tourist destinations with very safe places, but there being so much tourism and being a place inhabited mostly by poor people causes some criminality in some places there and hours. read more
