Sunni Sufi Islam has been well and truly been finished off by the more well funded Salafi Sunni Islam. The more mystic a religion is, the more there is space for different interpretations, the more adaptable and less violent the religion is, because if things are taken literally rather than read with an aura of mysticism surrounding the whole thing, you are going to have yourselves radical fundos. read more

IMHO in this respect Shia Islam is more transparent and *honest*, than Sunni Islam. If you look at the plethora of Sunni *Imams* on satellite television stations handing out opinions and guidance, it is pretty clear to me that Sunnis also implicitly recognise the need for some sort of religious leadership. read more
