Suriname was once Dutch Guiana, I think. It's a part of the Guianas Shield along with Guyana (once British Guiana) and French Guiana. Just as we in Guyana have a strong connection to Britain and the Commonwealth along with remnants of British Colonial socialization and heritage, so it is with Suriname and the Dutch. read more
