Think processors, digital logic, etc. Whereas system architecture may also refer to software engineering. Software without any hardware does not. So for working systems there is no software architecture without some systems architecture. When the complexity of the software brings its structures to the forefront of design it may make more sense to refer to it as software intensive system's architecture. read more

In this latter sense, computer architecture means the way hardware is arranged and connected in a computer, whereas system architecture means the way the operative system - id est, the software run in said hardware arrangement is run. None of that has anything to do with real architecture, as in "the art of building", and I am no computer expert. read more
