Having lived in Seychelles for 20+ years (the majority of my life) I can safely say that in short, the answer to your question is no. French is not 'dying' in Seychelles, English is just becoming a more widely spoken language as more expats move in and more developments take place in the country. read more

Of course, French isn't spoken as much as English or Creole, but that's been the case for decades, so to say that French is dying now would be a bit misleading. Rather, French has naturally and gradually become Seychelles’ third language since the French colonists left Seychelles shores in the early 1800’s, but it remains a widely understood and taught language amongst the creole speaking population of Seychelles. read more

French is far from dying, because of the simple reason that it is a living language, literally. Every year, new words are added to the dictionnay (even the longest word in french just changed !) because French, like France, is a huge melting pot of cultures, stories, history so we get new words coming from all around the world. read more
