Is the Israeli-Palestinian conflict a proxy war?

Maybe, just maybe, the Yom Kippur war could pass as a proxy conflict, i.e. the USSR arming the Arabs and the U.S. eventually trying to keep the balance and shipping arms to Israel. Yes indeed, the creation of Israel was a proxy war by Britain and later America to keep the Middle East in a storm of endless conflict, no surprise the unconditional support Israel gets from America despite the opposition from the rest of the world. read more

This whole conflict has the feel of a proxy war. Turkey and Qatar are backing Hamas in the hopes of getting the upper hand in their regional rivalry with Egypt and Saudi Arabia. The Egyptians and even the Saudis are surreptitiously backing or rooting for the Israelis, in hopes that the Israeli force will weaken Hamas. read more
