Is the Louvre always crowded during its hours of operation?

No, I have just visited Sunday/Monday at the end of August (2016). Due to the heat, terrorist threat, the French holidaying in August - the museum was NOT crowded and there was no queueing to get in. The museum was busy (more so on the Monday) but not crowded. With the exception of the Mona Lisa, there was no problem seeing any work of art you wanted. read more
