Speaking as someone who was homeless for an extended period of time, I can't think of a more inoffensive term for homelessness than homelessness. There's no stigma in the term: it defines homelessness exactly in one word. To be without a place to live is to be homeless. read more

I suppose if you wanted to use less emotionally charged words, you could say ‘residenceless’ or ‘houseless,’ but the former is awkward to say, and the latter sounds more like a real estate term. read more

Yes, homeless shelter is a negative term. Emergency Shelter, or crisis shelter would be better, but no matter what, people will be judged even if you call it "Location for persons who may or may not be experiencing crisis circumstances." I'm a pragmatist now. Fix what you can, and don't sweat the small stuff. read more
