Yes, both Turkmen and Turkish history is common before the collapse of the Seljuk Empire. Ethnically we both are descendants of Oghuz tribes. Share the same language, but with different pronunciations. read more
They are Exactly the same people. The guys that established the Seljuk and Ottoman Empires were both Turkmen tribes, and so was the lot of the ethnic stock. Turkey is the western migration of Turkmen tribes (Oğuz). Most of the Oğuz packed up and came to Turkey, but some still stay in Turkmenistan. read more
Turkmenistan has also been less Arabizised, and I also think less Persified (not sure though), than Turkey and Azerbaijan have. Turkmenistan has preserved many of the Central Asian traditions. Turkish and Azeri culture are fairly similar. read more
