Rostropovich’s success in getting composer after composer to write works for him means that the list of cello concertos written between 1950 and the present day is staggering. However, of the dozens of concertos written for Rostropovich, it is really only the first Shostakovich concerto and the Prokofiev Symphony-Concerto which have entered the mainstream repertoire. read more
