The refrigerator safety act of 1956 specified that any refrigerator sold in the US after October 1958 must be able to be opened from the inside. Of course just because it is not legal does not mean that some were sold or imported. The law does not apply to small refrigerators but it is highly unlikely anyone can fit in those. read more
