As far as I know, there is no"proof" that the Achilles of Greek myth is based on a real person. However, many (if not most) historians do now believe that the Trojan War of the Iliad was inspired by an actual conflict of some kind. read more

I think he might have existed. Maybe not in the way Mythology told us he did, but there are reasons to believe he was real. Troy actually existed.
