Is there any relationship between Existentialism and Humanism?

What existentialism provides Humanism is the understanding that this existence is all we have and we might as well make the best of it. This is obviously an optimistic take on existentialism. But I don't know any Humanists who don't find this thought incredibly inspiring. read more

However, much of Existentialism doesn't sit well, as Craig attests, and so I feel most persons tend to stick with Humanistic thought. I have taken Existentialism to heart and I see in it a graceful beauty. One can draw many parallels between it and Zen Buddhism, Taoism, and the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers. read more

Nevertheless Existentialism and Humanism provides a good introduction to a number of key themes in his major work of the same period, Being and Nothingness, and to some of the fundamental questions about human existence which are the starting point for most people’s interest in philosophy at all. read more
