Steep walled canyons will always have some shadowed areas during parts of the day. Some slot canyons in Utah are 400 feet deep and only 3 feet wide at some places (Buckskin Gulch is an example). You can walk all day in one of these canyons and only be in sunlight for a minute or two. read more
