The reason it is not considered a “mental illness,” but a disorder, is because Tourrette syndrome is mostly physiological. Though tics can be amplified and suppressed through certain thoughts and actions, it is still physiological. We don't really have a choice in the matter when it comes to succumb to our tics. read more
