Is violin harder to learn than piano?

I've learned both the piano and violin for 30+ years and have taught both instruments for 20+years. I have to say that the violin is MUCH harder to learn than piano. read more

I’ll have to disagree with the answers here. I play both piano and violin. I used to think that violin was much more difficult than piano, as there is the issue of intonation which a pianist does not have to deal with. read more

Piano is much easier than violin to start with. You still need a teacher for good technique, but you can get them in later when you have some basic competence. Piano also sets up a lot of skills (musical score, for instance) which are generally portable to other instruments, so it's a pretty good choice. read more

The violin and the piano are both difficult instruments in comparison to a simple instrument such as the recorder. This being said, the violin is much more difficult than the piano because there aren't any actual notes unlike the piano where you either hit the key or miss it. read more
