This week, Wisconsin became the nation's 25th right-to-work state. It passed a law saying workers cannot be forced to join labor unions, or pay union dues, to keep a job. There's a concerted effort in many states to pass laws that would weaken the power of labor unions. But unions and their allies are also fighting back in many places. read more

Right-to-work provisions (either by law or by constitutional provision) exist in 28 U.S. states, mostly in the southern and western United States, but also including the Midwestern states of Michigan, Indiana, and Wisconsin. read more

Wisconsin is one of 25 states with a right-to-work law. In April, Dane County Circuit Judge William Foust struck down the law as unconstitutional after it was challenged by three unions — the AFL-CIO's Wisconsin chapter, Machinists Local Lodge 1061 and United Steelworkers District 2. read more
