This was the track where I grokked Coltrane. This track, and a version of My Favorite Things recorded at the same performance, appear on the !Impulse album Selflessness. Although not for everyone, I now love the four CD set of Live in Japan. Not the best recording quality, but outstanding late Coltrane. read more
duke ellington & john coltrane (1963) This is one of Coltrane’s (and Ellington’s) more accessible recordings. For those that are accustomed to the playing of Coltrane’s usual pianist, McCoy Tyner, this recording is a restrained change of pace. read more
