Must doughnuts be in a ring shape?

Although ring shape donuts are very popular, they are not the only shape of donut. They most certainly do not have to be in a ring shape to be considered a donut. The round shape and the hole in the middle is the best way to make sure all parts of the doughnuts are fried evenly. Had there not been a hole, either the middle part would be under-fried or the edges/outer circle would be over fried, either would impede the taste of the doughnut. read more
