My question is why do many people ridicule polytheism?

Polytheism is not “many forms of God”. That’s a complete misunderstanding of what polytheism is. In polytheism, there is no God. There are multiple distinct, separate individual deities, both male and female. They are not manifestations of a single deity. Polytheism wasn't abandoned by the Romans. It had a slow gradual decline due to the rise of Christianity. Christianity was more popular with low class people and with slaves due to its ideology. The political authorities had to move with the times and even if they didn't believe, they converted to Christianity. read more
