Many officers are required to pass drug tests. Some just on hiring, but others have continuing testing. I think that they should, because many drugs can affect judgement and therefore job performance. If their use of drugs is legal, i.e. painkillers for an injury, then they should have modified duties or medical leave to adapt for this. read more

The fact of the matter is that Police have to take a drug test in order to get hired. Furthermore, my agency does random drug tests every month. They draw the names in front of several witness and the selected department members have to take a drug test in order to continue working. read more
