Formaldehyde is known to be a carcinogen, an irritant, and a source of oxidative stress. It is not known to be neurotoxic, except in the case that it kills you, which is known to be bad for brains as a whole. Its carcinogenic properties are due to its tendency to cross-link DNA, and form adducts on DNA which lend to its carcinogenic properties. read more
